Bitcoin Inheritance Planning

Make sure your bitcoin reaches the people you intend, without handing anyone the keys today.

A traditional will can say who inherits your bitcoin. It can’t tell them how to find it, how to recover it, or how to avoid the scammers who target the newly bereaved. And the most secure setups, the ones nobody else can touch, are exactly the ones that are hardest to pass on.

Good inheritance planning solves both halves: your bitcoin stays secure while you’re alive, and it’s recoverable by the right people when you’re not.

What we’ll put in place

  • An inventory of what you hold, where it’s held and how each piece is secured.
  • A letter of instruction your heirs can follow step by step, kept separate from the secrets themselves.
  • A backup plan for your seed phrases so that no single fire, theft or lost envelope ends it.
  • The right custody model for your situation, from a single hardware wallet to multi-signature arrangements where no one person can move the funds.
  • A dry run, so you know the plan works before anyone needs it.

Please note: this is for educational purposes only. I'm not a financial advisor and I don't know your specific needs, goals and risk tolerance, so I won't make recommendations for your financial decisions. Start with an amount you're willing to lose entirely, and combine what you learn from me with your own research to make your own decisions.

What we cover

  • An inventory of what you hold and where
  • Why a will alone isn't enough
  • A letter of instruction your heirs can follow
  • Where seed phrases and backups should live
  • Multi-signature and collaborative custody options
  • Helping your attorney and executor understand it
  • A recovery rehearsal (without moving funds)

Questions people ask

Is this legal advice?

No. I'm not an attorney. I help with the Bitcoin side, so that your estate attorney's documents can actually be carried out, and I'm happy to work alongside your attorney.

Will my heirs need to be technical?

No. A good plan assumes they aren't. It tells them exactly what to do, in plain language, and who they can trust to help.

Ready when you are

Plan how your bitcoin passes to your heirs. They need to be able to find it, understand it and recover it, without the plan making it less secure while you're alive.
